Celebration at Tamanowas Rock
|
On March 27 Gene Jones, spiritual leader of the S'Klallam tribe, and other members of the tribe, as well as representatives of Washington State Parks, state and county representatives, and private donors gathered at Tamanowas Rock for a celebration.
The gathering celebrated the joint efforts of public and private organizations and the generous support of more than 90 donors in completing the purchase of the Rock to save it from being "developed" as a housing site.
Jefferson Land Trust is serving as the bridge owner of the property for the period of a two-year loan from the Bullitt Foundation. Washington State Parks and the S'Klallam tribe are working to obtain funding to repay the loan and provide a long-range management plan for the property.
