Glendale Farm Grant Approved
The long, complex process of saving historic Glendale Farm in Chimacum is about to enter a new phase. Jefferson County commissioners have accepted a $546,737 grant from the state Recreation and Conservation Office that will help pay for a conservation easement on the 180-acre property.
Jefferson Land Trust, as a member of the LandWorks Collaborative, has been instrumental in raising money to meet the $1.09 million easement and restoration costs. In addition to applying for the RCO grant, Jefferson Land Trust has secured $316,738 in community funding and helped acquire $230,000 in county conservation futures funding.
The Glendale conservation easement will permanently protect the agricultural values of the property through restricting future development rights. It will also permanently protect a buffer along the section of Chimacum Creek that runs through the farm and help keep the farm itself functioning as a working farm.
Restoration plans for improved infrastructure include use of solar panels to power an irrigation pump and other equipment, as well as new water lines.
Closing on the easement is scheduled by the end of 2008, according the Jefferson Land Trust Conservation Director Sarah Spaeth. Restoration work will begin in early 2009.
